Pope Francis to Youth: God Prefers Us to be Sinful and Weak

Yes, Bergoglio said this to young people, many of whom are wrestling with all sorts of temptations right now.

For the record, saying God wants us to be morally weak is a vicious and damnable lie.

From Catholic News Agency:

God prefers us weak, Pope Francis says off-the-cuff to youth
Krakow, Poland, Jul 30, 2016 / 09:28 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The weaker we are, the more God's mercy can transform our lives. Pope Francis made these impromptu remarks on Saturday to crowds of young people gathered outside of Krakow’s St. John Paul II shrine.
“Today, the Lord wants us to feel ever more profoundly his great mercy,” the Pope said in a short, impromptu speech, delivered right after his visit to the Polish city’s Divine Mercy shrine. “May we never turn away from Jesus!”
Pope Francis shared these thoughts to a group of young people who are in Poland for World Youth Day moments before entering the St. John Paul II shrine to pass through its Holy Door, hear confessions, and celebrate Mass for priests and religious men and women.
We may think that we are the “worst” on account of our sins and weaknesses, the Pope told the youth. However, this is how God prefers us to be, in order that “his mercy may spread.”
“Let us take advantage of these days to receive all of the mercy of Jesus!”

Edit: Ilíon, in the comments below, reminds us of Romans 6, 1-2: What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

  1. His comment applies to our sins, suggesting God wants us sinful. The greatest perversion of truth.

    1. Indeed. The opposite of what is demanded in the Gospel.

  2. God only loves us if we remain sinful.

    How lovely.

    2. WRONG! Jesus didn't say: "For my strength is made perfect in SINNING."

Pope Frankie just like to twist the Scripture. That's his style!

  5. Romans 6:1-2 "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"

    1. Yes. Thank you. I hope you don't mind but I just quoted that Romans passage elsewhere.

    2. How could I mind? And I'm pretty sure Paul doesn't mind, either!

    1. If Lucifer were elected Pope, what, exactly, would he do or say differently?

    2. Michael, Luther was too rigorous a Biblical scholar to buy Francis' nonsense. Just read Romans 6. Anybody -- Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox -- with any minimal understanding of Scripture would know that God, while merciful toward sinners, wants to bring humanity out of sin. Otherwise, why did Jesus bother becoming the only divinely acceptable sacrifice for sin?

Unfortunately, most Catholics -- especially in the hierarchy -- don't even have a kindergarten student's understanding of Scripture. Moreover, the hierarchy openly disregards Scripture, as well as teachings from Tradition.

This is what happens when moral equivalence, pacifism (refusing to fight evil) and the pursuit of intellectual fashion supplant divine revelation as sources of authority.

  11. What Luther said/meant is that IF you decide to sin -- and, after all, to sin is a decision, for God always supplies an escape -- then "sin big" and "own it" (as we say these days). After all, why endanger your sould for a triffle.

  12. I'm pretty sure what he said was that God prefers us to *think* that we are sinful and weak, and that this attitude helps his mercy to spread.

    1. Well, then you need to find the quote and post it. If there is a link.....post it.

We only can WISH that he said that God prefers us to THINK..... I can't find that anywhere, so good luck with that!

    2. So we should rather assume that the Pope said something awful when we can't find what he said in the first place?!

  13. I think we need a little more clarity from our dear Pope. He appears to be channeling his mentor, Martin Luther, e.g.," “Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong, but let your trust in Christ be stronger, and rejoice in Christ who is the victor over sin, death, and the world."

  14. Once again, and off the cuff, an insidious message of confusion. Francis mocks the people, but God will not be mocked.

  17. I recall something in Holy Scripture that goes like this: Be ye therefore perfect, even as your. Father which is in heaven is perfect.(Mt 5:48). No where does Our Lord advocate being in sin; in fact did he not say to one sinner to "Go and sin no more". This misguidance of the youth is a travesty at the very least.
